I’ve had recently (mostly after the covid situations, lockdowns and shit) a love and hate relationship with my job. Most of the crew members feel exactly the same, I think everyone had enough time at that point to evaluate their priorities, slow down and take time for themselves. But that’s another topic. The job. It’s got it’s perks, lots of them. We, with the short haul airline based in one of the airports in the UK, do not really travel to all those places we go to every single day, we mostly come back home the next day. But even the simple fact of even opening the aircraft door and smelling the, let’s say for example, Moroccan air and enjoying the sun from the steps brings some magic into life. We do stay sometimes in Spain or Scotland for one night. These one are cool - go shopping in Madrid, get some wine(s), picos and serrano ham, get a nice breakfast and go back home. The time off as well, we don’t work really that much because of our restrictions about the flying time. The cons? Well, passengers are often rude. It’s an exception and a reason for a little celebration if “no one was rude today”. We tend to grow a thick skin within years of experience and it doesn’t bother us much, but definitely adds some unnecessary tensions. Weird working hours. Waking up at 2 am sometimes and going to bed at 5 am other times. Delays, cancellations, aircraft swaps. Problems with the ground staff that delay us sometimes right after we land on the last flight and we are about to go home, but can’t for another 2 hours. Shit happens. But in the end, I’m still enjoying it. It’s been exactly 5 years now with the job that taught me a lot, provided with a great experience and gave so many opportunities to see the World and be who I always wanted to be - a wanderer.
