As I was combing the beach in Tenerife for shorebirds, I spotted this lone Eurasian whimbrel foraging among the algae-covered rocks.

Thanks to a lot of patience, cuts, bruises, and wet clothes, I was able to capture some photographs of this large shorebird while it was resting.
