Review of the themes and plot of the first episode of the new anime "未来予想図 II/Miraisouzu II" ("Scenarios of the Future II") TV anime series for adults that will be airing this fall season: [Updated Nov 24th with impressions of the opening and ending themes and ED montage] Miraisouzu II is a science-fiction time-travel anime that takes place in a future-alternate world where the overwhelming majority of the Earth's human population lives in poverty, and are oppressed by the international TransNational Government of the world that control everything from politics to the economy, while a minority of the world's wealthiest people live in luxury and prosperity due to their privileged positions within the system. This anime is an anime adaptation of writer Atsushi Ōkubo's 2010 novel "Miraisōzu II". "Miraisouzu II" takes place in Tokyo circa 2019 in an alternate world future where the lives of the world's vast majority of the human population are governed and controlled by the TransNational Government. The people of Japan have grown disillusioned and angry towards the corrupt system that oppresses them, and have begun taking to the streets to revolt against the authorities. As this was happening, the Japanese military seized control of the country and established martial law, declaring the entire country to be a "State of National Emergency", and quelling the protests by arresting tens of thousands of people and putting them in prison. The military then turned around and used this as an excuse to seize control of Japan. This effectively put an end to the civilian authority, and transferred it to the military. The world economy then collapsed, with people losing their jobs and then rioting in the streets. Ten years after this, in 2029, the conflict has spread into a world-wide civil war with countless nations and people being drawn into it. The TransNational Government, having decided that the world is going to hell, have secretly announced to the world that they have completed the development of a time-space gate that has the ability to warp the fabric of reality, and have declared the entire world to be under their jurisdiction. They then use this as an excuse to send troops through the gate to occupy and subjugate the rest of the world, all in the name of preventing the world from being destroyed. Rising against this new dictatorship, the people of the world's various nations begin forming rebel armies to launch assaults against the TransNational Government and try to resist them. One of the places where the TransNational Government's armies are occupying, is in downtown Tokyo. A group of Japanese rebels have set up a command post in a nearby school, and are launching a counter-offensive against the occupiers. The counter-offensive initially looks like it will succeed, but they're forced to retreat when an armed Super-Soldier Showa era-styled mecha called a "Cybody" fires upon them from over a block away and obliterates their assault force, leaving the TransNational Government's soldiers without much effort able to reclaim control of the city. But suddenly, in the midst of this counter-offensive, out of nowhere, a lone Japanese girl, unassociated with either side of the battle and completely unarmed, suddenly materializes in the center of the street in the middle of the fight, and stands there there alone. A bright and colorful militaristic march song begins playing in the background as the mysterious girl, standing in the middle of the street in a very unassuming manner with her hands on her hips and an apathetic expression on her face, completely unafraid of the ongoing battle taking place around her, begins slowly walking down the middle of the street towards the Cybody mecha-suit standing a block away. The girl confidently approaches the giant cybody mecha suit of steel and armed with gigantic weapons, and as she slowly steps closer and closer towards the giant war machine, the cybody mecha suit raises its arm-mounted particle-cannon at her. Closer and closer she comes until she stops a mere ten feet away from the cybody mecha suit. She stares directly at the enormous war machine with an apathetic expression on her face for the longest time, until finally without warning, she lets out an incredulous shriek of laughter, unleashing a piercing shriek of laughter as she looks upon the gigantic mechanized super" …
