Gaikotsu

Skeletons, in which the skin and flesh have fallen off a corpse and only the bones remain, are very popular as the subject matter of yokai paintings. Toriyama Sekien also depicted a "skeleton" leaning out of a jar in the ground in his "Konjaku gazu zoku hyakki" (Picture of One Hundred Demons).

骸骨（がいこつ）

死体の皮や肉が落ちて骨だけになった「骸骨」は妖怪画の題材として非常にポピュラーなものです。鳥山石燕も『今昔画図続百鬼』に、土中の甕から身を乗り出している「骸骨」を描いている。
