1929, the days of 18 cents per gallon gas. This view is looking west on Jericho toward Tulip. The old trestle is 50+ years old here and still has a few more years remaining until its replacement comes along in 1932. Notice by now the trolley tracks have been pulled and the roadbed will be paved by demand of the motoring public. The trolleys have done their job; when built in 1906 there was little but woods and fields with an occasional farm house here and there. By the time the trolleys ended in 1926 there was lots of commercial enterprise all along the highway and the automobile age was in full swing. John L Childs had passed away and his florist business was going down the tubes, his colorful fields being replaced by the suburban locale we know as Floral Park. Peeking out under the trestle on the left is the signage for our towns Willys Knight dealership, one of many new car showrooms which once dotted Jericho Tpke.
