For several years now, freedom of expression has been increasingly repressed in many countries around the world. Made visible through media and social networks.
Even in the land of human rights, the repression is strong and unjustified, showing the world scenes of extreme violence and chaos, between policeman and protester.
These photos, available in abundance on the internet, challenged the artist who, through his illustrations, seeks to tell another story of these violent scenes.
By resuming scenes of police violence taken across the world, Pol seeks to divert the scene from its initial context to take it towards a lighter staging, that of the world of childhood, recklessness, moments happy. Seeking to question, with a touch of humor and nonsense, the gratuitousness of violent acts committed by those called "peacekeepers".
Pol was born in 2017 after a long reflection by its creator on the use of our own (physical) identities necessary for surfing the internet.
Pol is therefore a character born on the web, a digital identity created in an increasingly supervised computerized society, where freedom of expression is increasingly restricted, or "moderate" (by AI). A company where our personal data is monetized and used for commercial purposes.
Pol has no identity, nationality, age or gender ... only a "physical" portrayal distorted by a doctored profile picture. Pol thus gives himself the freedom to become whoever he wants.
