ABOUT THE ARTIST:

RIMO ZETA (Caracas, 1971) oil paints on recycled items since his art school days in Caracas during the 90s. He rescues and collects all sorts of discarded objects and transforms them into scenes from his universe of monstrous creatures and apocalyptic cities. Refrigerator doors, advertisements, ceramics, suitcases, televisions, and furniture are some of his favorite surfaces. These are not covered completely, there is always a part left intact. In general, this part configures the whole piece. With this same philosophy, RIMO also specializes in urban art interventions. A glimpse of the original aspect of the painted surface always remains, be it an old graffiti, a crack on the wall, or a poster.

Since 2009, RIMO ZETA has run ATRAKARTE, an art and silkscreen printing anarchist workshop in a squat social center in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona. It has a gallery where many underground art exhibits have been celebrated, as well as concerts, plays, performances, and happenings. It is an alternative space for creatives outside the formal art market.

ACERCA DEL ARTISTA:

RIMO ZETA (Caracas, 1971) pinta al óleo sobre soportes reciclados desde sus días en la escuela de arte en Caracas en los años 90. Rescata y colecciona todo tipo de objetos desechados para transformarlos en escenas de su universo personal de criaturas monstruosas y ciudades apocalípticas. Puertas de nevera, anuncios publicitarios, cerámica, maletas, televisores y muebles, son algunas de sus superficies preferidas. No las cubre por completo, sino que deja una parte intacta alrededor de la cual, generalmente, configura toda la obra. Con esta misma filosofía, también se especializa intervenciones en el espacio urbano. Siempre se puede entrever el aspecto original de la área pintada: un grafiti anterior, una grieta en la pared, un cartel.

Desde 2009 RIMO gestiona ATRAKARTE, un taller anarquista de arte y serigrafía en un centro social okupado en Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona. Cuenta con una galería donde se han organizado decenas de exposiciones colectivas de arte underground, así como conciertos, obras de teatro, performances y happenings. Este es un espacio alternativo para artistas fuera del circuito formal del mercado del arte.

PATROL Z (2014) is a series of six paintings made on giant adhesive vinyl adverts. The characters and landscapes depicted can be found throughout de artist’s body of work dating from the 1990s.
