Forever faithful - Red-and-green macaws (Ara chloropterus) - Forever faithful, macaws choose a single mate for its entire lifetime. As a resident of a forested area, observing the same pair of macaws passing overhead daily is a constant reminder of the faithfulness of these beautiful and exotic birds. While most animals follow a seasonal mating behavior, where the pair only comes together during breeding season and, after the birth of their offspring, the romance ends and each goes their separate way, macaws are different. They remain together, year after year, offspring after offspring. Legend has it that if one partner loses the other, for some unexpected reason, the survivor flies to great heights, until suddenly closing its wings and plummeting to the ground, a a tribute to its lost half. The macaws are a true example of eternal love.
