Biljana Bakaluca was born in Serbia and now lives on a road between Berlin and China. As a child, she became interested in art and after graduating from Art High School, she continued her studies at the Academy of Arts, where she obtained an MFA in Visual Arts. Her early artworks were directed towards figuration and definite form, and later her expression grew in abstraction. Biljana very quickly began experimenting with different materials, which expanded her horizons and went beyond the format of the image to become installations and space objects. That expression has not diminished Biljana's creativity, even her idea has become clearer and with a stronger message. The themes present in her artworks are related to the perennial struggle of the individual in society, alienation, trying to find it in difficult circumstances or adjusting to new living conditions. In addition to working in the studio, Biljana teaches at the Beijing and Shanghai Art Schools and is involved in education work.
