Project statement

On the first page of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s ‘The Little Prince’ the narrator talks about an image of a snake he had drawn that adults could simply not understand. Contrary people saw a simple hat. He had to explain that it was a snake that had eaten an elephant. During my travels through Asia I created this series with this idea in my mind. I wanted to question what I see and look behind the veils and facades of the many places that inspired this series. Through collaboration with local artists and models I was able to put together a series that shows new perspectives of familiar places.

In a world where everything often seems black or white, we need to find more space in-between. In my work I try to take something familiar and look at it in a new way, to find the ways to make the 'ordinary' special and the 'special' ordinary.
