011.TakedaCastleRuins/Hyogo
Takeda Castle is a pre-Sengoku period mountain castle located in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is technically a "castle ruin" since no buildings such as the castle tower remain, but the solid stone walls and the almost complete Nawabari (the site of the castle) remain intact, making it a very rare sight.
Because the Maruyama River runs through the foot of the mountain where the castle is located, a thick fog often forms on a clear autumn morning. This fog forms a sea of clouds, and the castle is called "Castle in the Sky" or "Machu Picchu in Japan" because it looks as if it is floating in it.
