Algorithmically created animations based on original photography by Eadweard Muybridge, a 19th century photographer known for his pioneering work in photographic studies of motion, particularly his work on animal locomotion. 'Cat Trotting' comes from his 'Animal locomotion: an electro-photographic investigation of consecutive phases of animal movements. 1872-1885, plate 717: "Cat trotting, changing to a gallop"'.

The algorithms that are used here animate his static photographs through the application of random values (within set parameters) to blend mode (normal, multiply, lighten, difference, exclusion, darken, overlay, soft-light and hard-light); number of layers; pixelshift (the starting displacement of the first frame in pixels); and animation speed.
