Hot Bagels - Canarsie 3.42/5
Store
Contemporary-style store with lots of amenities, including a large drink selection, impressive chip display, and an island of sweet snacks in the middle of the store. Spreads are nicely displayed in the deli case. Telemundo plays on a flat screen in the corner. Unfortunately the service wasn't so sharp: three staff with only two customers - counting myself - in the store and it took 5 minutes to place an order. Nevertheless, the setup and goods offered carry the overall score.
3.5/5
Bagel
So I guess I got a poppy? EXTRA large, possibly the largest bagel in the city. Very doughy and soft, seemingly made offsite but can't confirm. The density of the poppy is good, for what it's worth, but salt input is non-existent. Miscommunication aside, a good showing for what is truly closer to a deli bagel.
3.25/5
Cream Cheese
Served cool. Generous application, though slightly uneven coverage. Chunks of scallion that are low on visual appeal but high on texture and flavor. Slightly thicker than optimal. Still a decent offering.
3.5/5
The definitive bagel survey of New York City. 202 bagels reviewed across all five boroughs, with notes of distinction given to the best stores, spreads and bagels. http://everythingiseverything.nyc/
The collection is part one of "Post Clarity," a 5-part NFT series documenting "2020: Total Clarity" by creative duo Highley Varlet. During "Total Clarity," artists Mike Varley and Jessi Highet walked 260 marathons and 7,000 miles around the five boroughs of NYC over one calendar year. https://highleyvarlet.com/
