Buongiorno Bagels & Café - 3.08/5
Store
A large, square space with a fresh build out. With so many deviations from the genre, it's hard to call it a bagel store. Instead, it's closer to a cafeteria with half the shop dedicated to bagels. There's a distinct second half of the store dedicated to sandwiches, with cafe seating out front and a bathroom available to customers. No effort is made to display spreads or pastries. The bagels are housed in angled wicker baskets in orderly stacks against the wall. It's unclear if the bagels are made on site, a foreboding sign. Nevertheless, as a place to purchase food the location has its merits.
3.5/5
Bagel
Medium-large size. One sided toppings, standard with specs of salt. A very pale shell. No taste of the salt on eating, or much taste at all. Physically challenging to chew. Emotionally challenging to swallow.
2.25/5
Cream Cheese
Served slightly chilled, thinly applied. Good flavor, fresh profile, not too cheesy. Scallions noticeable but not too involved in the texture. Surprisingly quality given the bagel.
3.5/5
The definitive bagel survey of New York City. 202 bagels reviewed across all five boroughs, with notes of distinction given to the best stores, spreads and bagels. http://everythingiseverything.nyc/
The collection is part one of "Post Clarity," a 5-part NFT series documenting "2020: Total Clarity" by creative duo Highley Varlet. During "Total Clarity," artists Mike Varley and Jessi Highet walked 260 marathons and 7,000 miles around the five boroughs of NYC over one calendar year. https://highleyvarlet.com/
