Tal Bagels - StuyTown 4.08/5
Store
A nice take on the classic New York appetizing experience: all of the great offerings with none of the pomp and half of the expectations from the staff. Compact yet mouth-watering fish display. No drink fridges (as one might expect from an appetizing). Limited pastry selection but what's available looks good.
4.25/5
Bagel
Served warm. Large with one-sided toppings. Toppings are standard with deliciously charred onion/garlic. Salt, but not great ratio and not very apparent to taste. Not cut through all the way. Good density. Pleasantly soft. The lack of saltiness is a sneaky positive when considering the high quality lox in the store (I tried some separately). Expect a quarter or even half point higher when paired with salmon.
4/5
Cream Cheese
Served warm from the bagel. Good amount, good application. Nice scallion presence, no overcheese. A professional spread.
4/5
The definitive bagel survey of New York City. 202 bagels reviewed across all five boroughs, with notes of distinction given to the best stores, spreads and bagels. http://everythingiseverything.nyc/
The collection is part one of "Post Clarity," a 5-part NFT series documenting "2020: Total Clarity" by creative duo Highley Varlet. During "Total Clarity," artists Mike Varley and Jessi Highet walked 260 marathons and 7,000 miles around the five boroughs of NYC over one calendar year. https://highleyvarlet.com/
