Bagel Cafe - 3.17/5

Store
A long, deep store with strangely dim yellow lighting as you progress to the back. The effect is an aura of suspicion, like a thieves guild for bagels. Despite being the only customer in the store and having time to prepare for my approach, they continued their conversation for 10-15 seconds before addressing me. Amenities-wise, the pastry and drink options were solid in quantity and varied. The bagels were largely hidden from public view. Store signage looked good from what could be made out in the lighting. I declined a plastic bag and packed my purchases in my backpack away from the register. The previously disinterested staff watched me intently until I left the store. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend the experience, the intrigue was refreshing.
3.25/5

Bagel
Large bagel size, not cut all the way through. The overall profile typifies the 'average' bagel experience you'll find at most delis and unexceptional bagel stores. Standard toppings, both sides (kudos for that) at moderate density. A generic softness with the soggy, salty sheen of bagel brine. Limited crystal presence. Not stale but no sense of freshness and a little grainy. What brings the bagel up to store-bought average (versus the 2.5 supermarket bagel) is that salty flavoring painted onto the exterior.
3/5

Cream Cheese
Served deli case cool. Good amount but messy application. A little too dairy forward in taste, lacking a whipped freshness. On the plus side, the spread possesses a good scallion amount and strong texture presence.
3.25/5
