The suggested topic helped Ganna Kryvolap, a Kyiv native, who is currently based in Montenegro, to be in her element. She, as an artist, has long been watching metropolises from above. This is reflected in several cycles of her paintings. For example, her collection of works includes a series of roof paintings called “Horizons” — of Kyiv, Istanbul, New York, Sarajevo, Frankfurt … And now Berlin is also among them. In “Roots&Roofs” she focuses on the enigmatic, mainly nocturnal state of the metropolis. The metaphysics of the natural limits that are reflected in the human-made nature of the city fascinates her. In her formative rapture, she gets so abstract, that the landscape is pictured more and more arbitrarily with each subsequent canvas and becomes abstract in the end.
