A gleaming white retaining wall bisects two vibrant blue salt ponds. The crystal clear turquoise water reveals patterns and textures from previous salt harvests.
I captured this abstract image while flying over the salt ponds at Useless Loop near Denham in Western Australia. The ponds get their colours from different types of algae, and the vibrancy varies depending on the time of day.
“SALINITY: Aerial Abstract Photography” is a carefully curated small collection of 10 images as 1/1 Editions. The collection features abstract aerial images showcasing the beauty of the salt ponds in Useless Loop, near Denham in Western Australia.
I'd seen images of the salt ponds, but always assumed that they were heavily edited because the colours looked unreal. My jaw literally dropped as our chartered Cessna banked over the salt ponds of Useless Loop, revealing vibrant colours and angular shapes. This was the exact moment that I fell in love with aerial photography. I’m slightly afraid of heights, but the unreal colours and patterns distracted me from the fact that I was flying in a doorless single engine plane with only a seatbelt between me and an accidental skydive.
