4k digitally native abstracts. A series of connected works - each ‘Station’ is related and marks a return to pixels with a collage element.

‘The stations of the Cross’ is subject matter that intersects, art history, tradition, meditation, painting, ritual and abstraction. Historically they may depict points on the 'Via Dolorosa', each station may be a sculpture, a painting or simply numbers on a wall. It isn’t the image, it’s the ritual involved. The metaphor for life and death.

A station is something fixed – a position in which something is assigned to stand or remain. A painting in a gallery is fixed as we wander through it – walk past or pause in front, as we consider the thoughts we bring or simply just look and be open to the ideas that arise. Abstracts occupy that space between communication and meditation.

These paintings are not an attempt to depict, literally, but to evolve into a container for any enquiry. A cross symbol is a feature of my work - it has multiple readings, from an illiterate signature, a kiss, a vote and so on.

These days we simply don’t make space for looking, thinking and simply ‘being’.

Provenance note. This series and metadata was originally made and minted between December 2021 and April 2022 on the Known Origin platform. I subsequently burned a large proportion of them for various reasons associated with KO. They were reminted to my own contract in early 2023 and existing buyers were airdropped a replacement with the option of keeping or burning the earlier version. I did this to keep the remint a 'complete' series of 14.
