For Fortune Magazine’s 2021 August/September issue focused on cryptocurrency and defi, I was honored with the unique opportunity to design the magazine’s cover and dedicate this to the crypto twitter community which has given so much to me. Fortune and I will be donating 50% of the proceeds to charity.
For the auction, we’re collaborating with Manifold to create custom smart contracts specifically for this drop. How will it work?
This NFT is coded to react to a certain list of buyer ETH addresses during its inaugural auction. If a bid comes from one of the buyer’s ETH addresses in this list, the NFT will update to a special edition artwork designed specifically for the target buyer. However, if the bid is outbid by a non-targeted bidder, then the NFT reverts to its original artwork.

For its Aug./Sept. 2021 issue, themed “Crypto vs. Wall Street,” Fortune collaborated with pplpleasr, the artist who defined the aesthetic of the “decentralized finance” movement. Fortune is minting 256 editions of the animated cover art as NFTs—a number that nods to the 256-bit cryptographic keys at the heart of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ether.
Fortune and pplpleasr also worked with Manifold on custom smart contracts for three special-edition NFTs. If one of a selection of crypto influencer wallets places a top bid, the graphics will change to feature their avatar or logo.
pplpleasr says her artwork represents the personality and potential of DeFi: “It’s a whole colorful, vibrant ecosystem and community, not just an investment platform"
