There is an endless flood of selfies online. But what do they show? What do we see when we look inside ourselves? Self-portraits are a major and age-old theme in art. The question has always been: Who am I? What defines me? Where is my place?

I am not a fast minter. I need my time to decide when a work of art is finished. I usually start with photos or short videos, often just snapshots with my cell phone. Then I start manipulating them, layering them on top of each other, often taking images of my analog work, drawings or ink paintings, and mixing them in. The whole thing is then stored in a dark corner of my computer and I start something new. From time to time I have a look at what I find in the corners. Then something is taken out and the work continues. This can be repeated several times until the most difficult of all decisions is made: "It's done." The creative process is an experimental playground. The result is open. It is the result of many small decisions that arise from the previous ones.
