HELL🔥
Psychiatric disorders run in my family -traumatic familial environment was terrifying.
The chronic nature of this negativity exacerbated the effects of the neglect and abuse endured.
The lack of parental care in childhood led to hyper vigilance and extreme anxiety.
This, plagued by loneliness, vulnerability, and helplessness, leaves children feeling unwanted, abandoned, and lost.
HISTORY📔
Utica Crib represents inhumane history of mental health treatment.
It also represents my mom at 16 years old having hallucinations of saints.
She was locked up for a year getting electric shock therapy.
HEALING👌🏼
Surviving such a childhood, gave me empathy, compassion, and resilience.
Self-hatred transforms into self-acceptance.
There’s a correlation of schizotypal and high creativity, with my own disorder, there is a study showing intense creativity in the way our minds see the world.
This art also represents the secrecy around my mom’s mental health. Also, in dealing with my own mental illness, major depression, anxiety and agoraphobia.
Hidden, secrecy, stigma, hopelessness, guilt, and shame, yet this is a shared human experience.
May each generation break stigma barriers further!
There’s much more to this art. I’ll be making a video to go more in-depth.
