This is the 19th installment of the "Let's Travel Japan with Paintings" series. This time, the setting is Satsuma Province. In reality, it is the western side of Kagoshima Prefecture. This area is characterized by many cliffs even in the plain area. Floating in the sea is Sakurajima. Sakurajima is now a peninsula, but it used to be an independent island, which was connected to the land by an eruption. Incidentally, Sakurajima is not in Satsuma Province, but in Osumi Province. The sea in the foreground is called Kagoshima Bay, which is also caldera-shaped. The castle is Kagoshima Castle. The roads depicted are the national roads No.3, No.10, and No.58.
