In the Bangladeshi villag, Painam Nagar the formerly grand thoroughfare is now lined with crumbling mansions built in the between 1895-1905 and formerly owned by wealthy Hindu merchants.
The Hindus fled Bangladesh after partition to India although some stayed behind. The few remaining Hindus left in 1964 during the anti-Hindu riots which eventually led to the Indo-Pakiistan War.
Many structures are now abandoned but some are inhabited by squatters.
This collection of photographs documents a never-ending journey of self-discovery. Through travel, I inject myself into the unknown, scrambling to navigate a new reality with its exotic rules, smells, people. Through photography, i seek understanding both within and without. Through the exposure to the "other" I am better able to understand my self, the newly discovered world, the world my past is rooted within.
