I based this piece on Raphael’s Sistine Madonna. This oil painting typifies the Renaissance transition from the medieval religious themes to humanism. Although still portraying religious figures, this humanistic piece puts its emphasis on the human relationship between a mother and her child. In this representation, Madonna as a human mother stands in sharp contrast to Christ Child, a virtual rendering and product of past human experiences and creations, which are constantly fed into his being through the digital tentacles. He is a child laying in the arms of his mother, his creator — humanity. And he is the newborn era of digital art that follows many eras before him, like his mother, the Renaissance.
