Colonization has been a constant feature in Malaysia's history dating back to 1511 when Afonso de Alburquerque arrived with a Portuguese force of 1200 men and a fleet of 18 ships. 'Sedia' is a Malay word that means 'Ready' in English and this piece of art depicts the state of mind of the people of Malaysia when it comes to foreign invaders. Set in the backdrop of World War II, it depicts a group of people in a Malay village or 'kampung' bracing themselves for the arrival of the Imperial Japanese Army.
