Maria (Masha) Zeltsman is a Ukrainian artist from Odessa, a beautiful city on the coast of the Black Sea. Masha draws her creative inspiration from this coastal city, with its special blend of sun, sea breeze, a multicultural heritage that left its mark on Odessa’s cuisine, traditions, and a unique sense of pride and humor.
Masha likes to observe people and nature, channeling her observations into symbolic visual representations.
Unfortunately, her life is now divided between what happened before February 24, 2022, and after. When the Russian military began its invasion of Ukraine, Masha was fortunate enough to be outside the country with the younger of her two sons. Her older son, a teenager, happens to be in a school outside his home country as well. However, Masha’s husband stayed behind in Odessa, with no possibility of reuniting with his family due to the war. In this sense, Masha’s story is representative of so many Ukrainian women whose families were torn apart by this war.
