The Bwa people are native to Burkina Faso and Mali. The are approximately 300,000 people living autonomously village by village and they do not recognize an individual political authority. Decisions are made by a council of male elders of local lineages. The Bwa believe that the world was created by a God named Difini or Dobweni, who was wounded by man and thus abandoned mankind to his fate on Earth. Dobweni sent his son called Do, to act as his messenger to humans and to act as an intermediary between people and spirits. Do is primarily concerned with all ceremonies that represent the renewal of life. The religious leader among the Bwa is called Labie (earth priest) Labie is often the oldest male member of the clan that first occupied the land on which the village was built.

This circular mask was danced with to celebrate the farming season. It represents the sun, necessary with rain and the earth for growth. Overtime this beautiful mask has represented harvest and anything associated with harvesting crops; Success and joy that comes with growth.

3D AFRICAN MASKS collection image

Most African masks that were taken from the continent are now in the homes of private collectors and museums. The descendants of these mask makers do not have the privilege of seeing what their ancestors carved. Even though the masks were aesthetically appealing, they were functional to the tribes that used them.

African masks represent ideas that are still relevant today. I am making the most rare and most expensive masks available to new collectors in 3D. 50% of Proceeds will be contributed in setting up an Innovation Hub, in Ghana. This Innovation Hub will be a place where young creatives who are the descendants of these mask makers will come to, to develop their ideas and bring them to fruition using technology. Creatives will receive training material to develop their talents and creative abilities.
