Some are born with strong personalities. Others spend years slowly developing them. Nub-em-het may have once had his own personality, though if that was the case, it was long ago forgotten in the hundreds of mirror personalities. A mirror personality is when you take on the personality of those around you, like a kind of social chameleon. This allowed Nub-em-het to blend in perfectly to whatever social situation he was in, quickly gaining influence and power. Everyone loves themselves more than anything else, and when they looked at Nub-em-het, they saw themselves.
Everyone loved spending time with him. He echoed their passions and fears with a commitment that made them proud to have those same passions and fears. And they trusted him. How could they not? To think ill of Nub-em-het was to think ill of everything oneself stood for.
Nub-em-het grew up to find himself in powerful circles, plural. If one found themselves at the top of any one group, they had done very well, but Nub-em-het’s mirror personality made him a favorite in conflicting groups. The religious loved him for his piety, and the aristocrats loved him for his debauchery. Some knew that he also happened to be friends with those he hated, which confused them. Nub-em-het handled this expertly by assuring them that he only fraternized with their common enemy in order to weaken them.
War was coming, and Nub-em-het had no idea who would lose. He wasn’t worried, though, because both sides viewed him as a dear friend, as he played the perfect double agent. Giving just enough information to each side to assure them of his allegiance, everyone viewed him as a key ally.
In the end, one side would win and decimate their enemies. Nub-em-het knew he would conveniently be there by their side to share in the victory and the spoils.
