It became clear to Mitra quickly that these aggressors’ aggressions were all centered around a few key figures. Miri 9, the robotic duck, led a band of very dangerous individuals who seemed to share a mission to kill the prophet. On further discussions, it turned out that only three of them even knew who the prophet was. The bull shaman Jabari was secretly trying to stop them from killing the prophet, while wolf prince Dudley Cadogan thought they were trying to help the prophet and was now very confused with fights haven broken out every time they neared him. Miri 9 was the last of their group who knew clearly who the prophet was, and she definitely wanted to end his life.

The rest of her gang seemed to just be misfits who were lost in the world and happened to find a place where they belonged with her. It didn’t matter that they were going to kill someone. They were just happy to have a family. It seemed clear that if Miri 9 decided she didn’t have to kill the prophet, her friendly band of cold-blooded killers would cheerfully accept the change in plans.

The legendary tree assassin Ki No Kami was the strange third party who had no connection with Miri 9 other than a shared target for murder. He was very adamant that he was going to fulfill one of the two epic possible experiences that lay ahead of him, completing the hardest job he’d ever heard of by killing that prophet or failing that job and getting to take a new trip from this life into the next. Mitra was finally able to satisfy him by offering this connoisseur of new experiences a third choice which was also something he had never experienced in his journeys around the galaxy.

Surprisingly after a life spent doing so many wild things, Ki No Kami had never been successfully imprisoned. When a frustrated Mitra tried to bluff and told him that he would be thrown into their host’s deep dark dungeon if they could not find a solution, she saw something light up in his eyes. As you will remember from his saga, Ki No Kami never shied from any new experiences, embracing the bad as eagerly as the good. To be in some storybook-sounding dungeon tormented by solidarity while planning his grand escape and revenge sounded like a wonderful adventure so different than anything he had experienced. He happily abandoned his plans for the murder of the prophet. At the same time, Mitra quickly contacted Mr. Nnamani to inform him that he needed to construct a dungeon worthy of Ki No Kami’s overly active imagination.

This still left the problem of Miri 9. Mitra had tried every psychologist’s trick from every book, from cognitive behavioral therapy to holistic therapy. Miri 9 would not budge in her resolve to kill the prophet. Without any other options, she decided to let the prophet share his own defense and separated him and his would-be murderer from the rest of the group. She gave a few words of support and encouragement to both of them and took a step back, though making sure that she, and more importantly, Baku stayed very close.
