Nikon D850, lens Sigma 200-5000 mm 5.6 Image processed on adobe Photoshop CC software High definition photography (5315x 4252 pixel/inch) The red deer is an animal present in many forest areas. It is more difficult to see than roe deer and chamois because it lives in large forests interspersed with glades and does not venture into open spaces until dawn and dusk. The time of the slab, the name given to the rut in autumn, where we can hear the raucous and ecstatic cry of the males, is an extraordinary moment to observe.
Shoot on Vosges mountain, in France, from the Vosges Wonderlands serie : https://www.pierrerich.com/vosges_merveilles.html The forest environment, of hills and peaks
Through walks, forests of altitude and their twisted trees with deep and bushy valleys, we apprehend mysterious atmospheres that connect us to the fantastic tales, animated by the song of birds, woodpeckers and passerines, the barking of deer in the distance or the passage of wild boars, or the smell of tree species and humus. The naturalist Claude Mutzig said in this regard: The Forest is our foster mother, our homeland, the cradle of our traditions and customs. The forest is that environment that escapes the society of objects. This is without a doubt what attracts us and pushes us into the woods, into an experience of all senses, which plunges us out of our time. Extract from the book "Massif des Vosges" , 2015.
In this series, my approach is both naturalistic and artistic, at least attached to translating the subtlety and power of the natural worlds in exercise: from wooded environments to meadows of valleys or ridges, places of water, springs to lakes, I go to meet these animals in their privacy, as the gift of a wonderful moment.
