A small field glowed with the purple blooms of these globe amaranths, on one of those wild mornings where the moon forgot to hide. I was transfixed by their connections–which reminded me of the synapses of the brain. Through this lens, every purple bloom represents a single idea in the mind, and how connected it is to all our other thoughts.

From there, I realized that inspirations to write poems feel like this field of globe amaranths–rising up haphazardly in wayward tangles, often many at the same time. Our job is to embrace these poetic thoughts, and try our best to capture them with as much purity as possible.
