"Sons" is the first picture of the ArtHall`s artist Eva Maltseva, published at OpenSea. The painting was inspired by Jean Baptiste Carpeau's sculpture Ugolino and His Sons, exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Sculptural composition "Ugolino and his sons", depicting the deposed and imprisoned ruler of Pisa, ready to gnaw his fingers from hunger. Ugolino himself, his two younger sons and two younger grandchildren were imprisoned in the tower, Ugolino died two months later in terrible agony.
Exhibited in 1863 at the Paris Salon, sculpture provoked fierce criticism. "I wanted to convey the most violent passions and combine them with the softest tenderness," Karpo will write to his friend. Eva Maltseva was deeply affected by both the sculpture and its history. “It is perfect from all sides, every line and the whole volume,” says Evgenia.
