An abstracted irrigation landscape digital print.

Arial photographs of the orange river region show a landscape dotted with circular patterns of different browns and greens. These circular patterns are created by centre pivot irrigation which is done on a rather large scale in the immediate vicinity of the Orange River.

The diagonal yellow lines can also be seen a flat or low mountain ranges with valley of irrigation.

The composition is mostly a colour that is usually called blue lagoon (#005666), with reds and yellow with a touch green. The green is produce from the overlay of yellow on the blue.

This is the first of a series of work that will be inspired by irrigation or even the lack their-of.

The mountains of the Magaliesburg and surrounding area and the Drakensberg in South Africa are the inspiration to these artworks that explore the balance or lack their-of between humankind and the environment.
The organic forms, contrasted with the geometric and rigid counter-parts in my paintings, are symbolic of the battle that exists between man and his environment. This conflict with our environment is real yet at the same time man can and could, still, bring about a balance and respect for place in it. The colour, form and line in the paintings’ composition become more than just these basics; they are a means to deliver the message about man and his environment. Harmony or discord, you decide.
