The idea behind this work was to explore geometry and colour through the subject of the Four Seasons. This piece depicts Spring.
My work is mostly lyrical and colour is most often the main carrier of the message and emotion. In each of my paintings, I try to explore the expressive possibility of a particular nuance through careful observation and examination. It was my idea to explore the ways in which colour perception change depending on the light and setting.
In this work I used a very well known subject to explore the power of different shades of red that changes depending on the circumstances. It gives out one expression when used as a dominant hue, and completely another when it’s applied sparingly as an accent as in the Spring artwork.
Colour is my visual language, it is tangible and it is brilliant. Its mood altering abilities fascinate me. Yet colour as such doesn’t really exist in the world. It is just the way in which our eyes have evolved to interpret light. As such, our perception of a particular colour and its properties can change subtly depending on the context.
My group of works Seasons is an exploration of a particular shade of red, when used in different environments, either as the dominant colour or sparingly as an accent.
