On rare occasions, a very power stream of particles punches through the atmosphere and makes it to about 80km altitude, producing the vibrant pink color. In December 2020, that happened in Mikkelvik, Norway, right above the fjord we were visiting. It was one of the best pink auroras I had ever seen, and it even painted the water in pink!

Aurora reflections collection image

The aurora borealis is a mesmerizing natural phenomenon that so many people long to see before they die. It is what started my astrophotography career and I have been chasing them for 8 years now. On some nights, the aurora is very faint, but sometimes it explodes in very intense, bright and colorful shows. My personal favorite experience is when viewing such shows next to a still body of flowing water. When there is no wind and the sky is dark enough, you get the perfect play of mirror on the water surface. You are alone watching in this ephemeral, ethereal world, with only the sounds of nocturnal animals in the distance. In this collection, I am listing some of my best aurora reflection work taken all over the world.
