There is always something surprising about aurora shapes. That's why aurora photography is so fascinating and rewarding sometimes. To catch these elusive forms, you need to be consistently in the field, camera at the ready, as the aurora can literally go from zero to a 100 in a matter of seconds! That cold night of November 2018 was no exception to the rule. The aurora started as a faint band overhead, a sign that a substorm is forming. I quickly pulled over on the side of the road and found a still river a few hundred yards away. I barely had time to set up my camera by the calm water that the aurora exploded in bright greens and pink. At some point, it described a very nice swirl in the sky, as if a genie was coming out of a bottle!

The aurora borealis is a mesmerizing natural phenomenon that so many people long to see before they die. It is what started my astrophotography career and I have been chasing them for 8 years now. On some nights, the aurora is very faint, but sometimes it explodes in very intense, bright and colorful shows. My personal favorite experience is when viewing such shows next to a still body of flowing water. When there is no wind and the sky is dark enough, you get the perfect play of mirror on the water surface. You are alone watching in this ephemeral, ethereal world, with only the sounds of nocturnal animals in the distance. In this collection, I am listing some of my best aurora reflection work taken all over the world.
