This is a NEW edition of a work I created back in 2017 (the collector of this work will get both versions of this artwork: this version from 2021, and the 2017 version).

I created this artwork as a composite of different photos, exactly 5 days after my mum’s death. I wanted to use my art as a way to deal with my grief. I wanted to fill the void in my soul with flowers. Flowers to represent her. Flowers for her. In pink, for it was one of her favourite colours. This year (2021) was the first in 4 years where I was able to look both at Mother’s Day and her own birthday not as a reminder of loss but as a celebration of my love for her. The sadness is still there, especially in the tiniest things, but the love we shared will always live on. And love is the key to everything. The highest of magics.

It was with this new perspective in mind that I created a new retouching for this composite. One where the colours are more vibrant to reflect the beauty of life. To celebrate the happiest memories and fill the space within me with love.

10% of this sale will be donated to “Respira - Associação Portuguesa de Pessoas com DPOC e Outras Doenças Respiratórias Crónicas” which is a non-profit organisation in Portugal for people with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and other chronic pulmonary diseases. This Association works closely with schools, universities, health centres and professionals to promote the awareness of this disease by preventing the smoking of tobacco, which is the disease/vice that killed my mum.
