My 1st time in Barcelona was years ago. Back then, we didn’t even have smartphones. I was by myself and with a point & shoot type of camera. Returning to the city more than a decade later felt way different - and amazing! I was travelling with friends, had other close ones living in town this time and a new passion for photography.
The midday sun in the old town was just stunning. And for what I intended to capture, it felt like I was in heaven. The narrow streets and the area’s architecture were the recipe for a massive amount of different shapes created by the shadows. I still remember someone saying ‘You’re a street photographer, right?’, as I waited on the corner of one those streets.
This trip happened not long after my visit to Amsterdam, also part of this collection. And if you read that photograph’s description, you know that I wasn’t feeling that great. But Barcelona brought the happiness and the balance back, and I really cherish those moments. It really felt like I was leaving the darkness. At least for a little bit.
A few weeks later after returning to Berlin, I fell in love with someone and lived the best moments in a very long time. Everything felt right and in place. But looking back, the moment captured in this photograph perfectly represents what came to happen. Unfortunately, that’s a story that I’m not ready to tell just yet.

Photographing on the streets is about creating on the go, embracing the unexpected. Moving forward, every new angle is a brand new story. It’s about adapting to change all the time, being it in the light, in the dark or in the middle of both. Just like life itself.
Chasing Shadows is a collection of 18 photographs minted on the blockchain between March and October, 2021.
