February 2nd, 2018. The dawn of Deepfakes.

This first GIF which was a result of a week's worth of research, trial and error. Quite excited with the result, I decided to write a blog post about it and share it on the (at that time not banned) r/Deepfakes subreddit. It received a lot of positive response as it was the first personal, successful Deepfake, replacing celebrity faces with regular people, making something fun and personal instead of something pornographic (or Nic Cage faces), an attempt to spread positive news around the technology instead of the abundance of negative news coverage.

This gif was shown on a multitude of websites, including Boing Boing in an article on the closure of the subreddit (https://boingboing.net/2018/02/07/case-closed-then.html) . It is part of a blog post that resulted in interviews with and mentions on news outlets and websites such as The Verge, Boing Boing, San Francisco Chronicle, Hacker News, Fox News, Der Spiegel...

A Piece of Deepfakes History collection image

The items in this collection are part of early Deepfakes history, the first Deepfake result to go viral for its fun, positive and SFW angle.

Around January/February 2018 Deepfakes became extremely popular in a negative sense, with Reddit even banning r/deepfakes for its abundance of NSFW fakes. During that same time I decided to put my wife on the Tonight Show using the tech. The generated gifs were a result of a week's worth of Deepfake exploration, testing, processing and insights.

The blog post's timing was extremely lucky (2018/2/2), receiving a huge response (150k across my own blog and Medium), landing me interviews and exposure of the gif in international newspapers and tv shows (San Francisco Chronicle, The Verge, Hacker News, Fox News, Der Spiegel, Boing Boing)

Don't miss out on getting a part of this exclusive piece of Deepfakes history!
