Hypertexture (White 1) is a single oil painting created by Maxwell Stevens in 2001. The Hypertexture Paintings are an ongoing series of intensely textured abstractions that utilize a repeating and meditative approach of overpainting surfaces with tens of thousands of interwoven brushstrokes applied in superimposed layers. This process results in textures becoming forms in and of themselves while conveying mood and emotion through the direct experience of color and surface presented in close proximity to the viewer.
