Original Art Work

Human Solidarity facing atrocities at war and justice.

About the Artist:

Leonardo Lanzolla

I have always been hungry for color! Coming from a culture of communist propaganda, color has been my escape. Emigrating and living in los angeles, the brightness of light, the freedom of thought made my colors richer, deeper and purer. I am drawn to the human body with its profound sorrow and great affirmations. In a world of fear and dreams, anguish and chaos, of challenges not yet known, I am on a discovery journey through shapes and textures, light and shadow, abstract thoughts expressing emotions and, ultimately bringing joy and insight to the viewer.

Bending inward, I am searching for the interior landscapes, reflections of reality in small bitter amounts. "Chaos is the maximum order" I dive in color and let it become. It is a process in which I get lost and become a tool.

I paint as I breathe. There is a dialogue between the two. Without knowing, though aware of every stroke and color that touches the surface, I feel chaos taking shape, searching for the balance, for a new way of seeing and feeling reality. I start excited a new journey with every canvas. The challenges of the informal view, the liberation from everything I learned and know, form and color, immersion into the depth of the unconscious; the result, an emotion, a thought, many thoughts, an avalanche of feelings, or just plain beauty. Rest. Wonder. Resonate.

Color. I taste it. I want the viewer to taste it before knowing what are they looking at. Color is my driving force. I let it become, I feel it viscerally. Constructing. Deconstructing, it's all a balancing act. The journey is complete when hanged on the wall, the viewer can get lost in it. Get a feel of attachment, awe, or get answers to questions never asked. We all approach art in different ways. We find answers or we are affronted with more questions. The art discourse is an open ended field. I give my answers...I question my own subjectivity with questions that rise even more questions...

There is mystery in art after all.
