Perspective from the other side of the boundary. Created with Adobe Illustrator, the 1975 NASA Graphics Standards Manual, and the US Web Design System font Public Sans.

I’ve always loved the space program and the potential for human advancement that it brings. The origins of this piece came from reading an update on the Voyager 1 and 2 probes in a December 2018 Reuters story, which included a quote from Nicola Fox at NASA reflecting that “we are fortunate enough to have two very brave sentinels that have left our heliosphere and are out truly looking at the other side of the boundary.”

The phrase “two very brave sentinels” struck a poetic chord in me, so I decided to produce this piece, mixing the “NASA Blue” color from NASA’s style guide with the Public Sans font. The resulting piece is completely off-style for NASA, but a reminder that there are public servants in government who still believe in brave sentinels, elegant typography, and exploring a universe far larger than our small selves.
