"Memories of a Geisha".

A Vintage Fine Art Image of a nightly street scene - in panorama format! This may well be one of the most brilliant images of a Geisha worldwide. It was taken by Per-Andre Hoffmann in the eighties.

"While I had the privilege", says Per-Andre, "to spend considerable time photographing "Miss Akiko", she took great care in not engaging in any conversation with me, instead just giggling occasionally behind a flat hand. Fine, I was focused on my photography, my camera, lights, settings and loading numerous rolls of 135' film. While being focused on my art however, I was overcome by a feeling, I felt mesmerized by this icon of Japanese culture, a symbol of a bygone era, graceful and dignified, with neon lights dazzling on her snow white make up, the crimson lipstick, her jet black hair with ornaments and the precious kimono. All this seemed too cinematic, too unreal and magical to be true...

Though is unique image has been displayed in various exhibitions, Per-Andre -for whatever reasons- has not made it viewable by a wider audience. Until now. As if he wanted to keep the memories for himself...

One of Per-Andre's night scenes was also featured in the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BOOK "NIGHTVISION": "If you're a night owl, a nature lover, or just someone who appreciates really darn good photography, National Geographic's new book Night Vision: Magical Photographs of Life After Dark might appeal to you with its 230 nocturnal photographs. Here are 14 stunningly gorgeous shots from the book..." - see link for more

These are Professional images that have been published in the world's most famous magazines and newspapers, exhibited in renowned museums, won international awards, used on official US-postage-stamps, billboards, advertising and found in the collections of famous celebrities. All images are taken by Per-Andre (raised in Brazil and Norway, schooled in the USA and England, graduated at the "State Academy of Fine Arts" in Europe. He is a veteran professional and long-time Ambassador of a world famous camera brand). These images were taken in all corners of the world, in over one hundred countries, on seven continents. In some of the most remote (and hostile) regions he has photographed cultures, indigenous peoples, sceneries, flora and fauna in their traditional state, unchanged in centuries, untouched by modern life, now lost in time, never to return and forgotten, if not brought back to life in these vintage art works.

Yet his most famous image may be the iconic portrait of Cuba's former President Fidel Castro. This is considered the best portrait ever taken of Fidel Castro (read this fascinating story in Google: My Portrait Session with Fidel Castro).

Looking at Per-Andre's images it is clear why the International Photo Press named him the "Magician of Light" and wrote: “His work is breathtaking. Per-Andre has a rarely seen, (even among photographers) true artistic eye, with an apparent supernatural talent for capturing light, color, and composition in one harmonious moment. But it is also evident he has the heart and soul to appreciate the wonder and beauty of creation. His photos convey great depth of Nordic melancholy maybe, mood and emotion. While some exude life and movement, others whisper solitude and tranquility. They so engage the viewer, that one is not only captivated by the scene but has a sense of experiencing it”.
