You Live Only Once they say. And what’s life without a little risk and a bit leap of faith. In this photograph I have captured the essence of lively spirited childhood. As we grow up we set time goals on our life. Like graduation at 23, job at 25, a family by 30. But is life really all about these?? The story behind this photograph will tell you otherwise.

On a winter morning I went to a field in the middle of a busy city, Kolkata, to capture the morning view of the city and its people. There this little guy caught my attention. He was cycling normally at first with another friend of his. Then they put up a bet on something I suppose and this little one started showing all sorts of stunts. Needless I say he was brilliant. It was so mesmerizing that for once i forgot to open my shutter. I was stunned. In this photograph I have captured one such stunt of this little man. His sprightly attitude brought back my childhood spirits. I could relive my happy days once again at that very moment. Right after this feat he fell down on the ground. Yeah, he lost the last bet. But he stood back right up. With a grinning smile on his face he hugged his friend. Loosing the bet was not a failure to him. He enjoyed each and every moment of the act thoroughly. That’s all that mattered to him. If not today he would win on the next one. So this kid taught me a very valuable lesson which we tend to forget living in a world where visible success is considered everything. We stop taking risks in the fear of failure. We get too depressed by any bits of loss that we face on our journey. But we let slip of the fact that it’s not always about winning. The journey counts so much more that the actual destination. We can only live a content life if we embrace every moment of it, every breath we take, every movement we make.
