As you can imagine, Happy Birthday balloons are common finds, however this is the only one we have ever found with these crazy candles on it. To us the candles look terrified. Perhaps they are afraid that if they are not pulled from the ocean, that long ribbon attached could tangle and kill a seabird or a baby seal. Maybe they don't want to be killers. Pollution in our oceans is a serious problem. Foil balloons, because they are bright, colorful, and float, are the easiest ocean litter to see and to catch. That’s true for people, and, sadly, that’s true for whales, dolphins, seals, fish, turtles, and seabirds as well.
