Time has stretched out ambiguously since the woman first came to this parallel world. Her heart has been lost, turned into a pear, and the search has gone on for such a long time that she doubted her vague memories of what it was like when she still had it. The woman transformed into the Cat with nine lives to quest on in her search. As the Cat, she could move and think in ways that no other form could. As she searched within the thoughts twisting towards her, she could remember many things and see the past and the future. The mysteries of the universe upended up to the Cat. Some of the memories she saw in the twisting were hers; some were not. Many shapes presented themselves to her, yet none of them was the heart she was seeking. Stars and galaxies hummed outside the door. The chaotic ringlets of the universe touched her hand and though she was calm, she wondered whether she’d ever find her essence again.
Silent Travelers is the newest chapter from the multi-awarded visual narrative Tale of the Blue Pear. It shows a deeper, more intimate insight into the characters that inhabit this parallel universe and their goings-on in these surreal surroundings. An eerie atmosphere hangs in the air where these personified creatures dwell amongst overgrown interiors, lush gardens and symbolic elements, all of which are protagonists or object narratives, in this (anti) utopian world. Tale of the Blue Pear is an internationally exhibited body of work, started in 2013. It consists of a series of artworks about a woman who enters a parallel universe, hoping to find her lost heart, which has taken the form of a pear. On her quest for the pear she finds talking animals, strange characters, giant beings, superpowers, as well as her own alter egos. With subtle elements of allegory and irony, this visual story raises questions about our own lives and the never-ending quest for inner peace and happiness.
