This was my first drawing that started the 30min Sketches series- #1. This drawing is inspired by the Capuching Crypt.
Once as a kid I got lost for a few minutes in a crypt and it left a strong impression on me. That crypt was more like an underground maze with lots of candles, paintings and glass coffins. Those few minutes felt much longer, the dark tight tunnels felt endless, every turn I wondered what I'd see next, how long till find a way out. Once I found my group I felt relief, but also regret that it was over so soon; no one noticed. I love happy fantasy, but I'm also drawn to the scary and slightly morbid art, especially with various mysteries. Sometimes skulls make me uneasy, but they're also fascinating because they're left behind by various lives we might never truly know about. The awareness that everything ends can be debilitating but also motivating, we want to be remembered. These sketches are my way of expressing myself more instead of just daydreaming as before.
