Eirik the Viking, the Ruler of the North, Slayer of a Hundred Dragons was awarded the place of the GateKeeper, a man who guards the gate to Kriptomat from ambitious men, and dragons alike, who want to exploit its powers for their own personal gain. With Dragonslayer in his one hand and Worldsplitter in the other, Eirik the Viking is one of the oldest, most fearsome heroes who still strive for the balance between the worlds. Legend has it that Eirik is the only human who defeated a dragon singlehandedly, fighting him for three days and three nights until he proved victorious.

THE STORY OF EIRIK THE VIKING

The story of Eirik the Viking starts in the frozen desert, the snow-dressed fields and the vibrant ports of the North, home of the vikings.

In a small village –whose name was forgotten over the ages—a boy was born years before the first arrival of the dragons in the world of men. Eirik Ragson was his name, son of Rag, ruler of the village and commander of its fleet.

Since his birth, due to his noble background and the fame of his father, Eirik was destined to achieve greatness. His contemporaries always thought him as Ragson, the child of the Elder and the one who’d lead the village after the death of his father. His parents held the same views of greatness for him, pushing him since the day of his birth all the way to the day he came of age.

The pressure and the stakes were always high for Eirik, but that pressure never made him flinch or falter. He always gritted his teeth and kept moving forward, for his family, for his village, for the people who needed him. Those were the values his parents taught: honesty, hard work, and justice for the ones in need.

Eirik, a Viking by birth, was trained in the art of sailing and fighting since the early years of his life. His parents made sure he had everything he needed in order to become the perfect ruler; books, mentors, and the best teachers of the north. And Eirik grew both in intelligence, strength, and beauty. His body was robust and his muscles stiff, his brown hair waved in the wind and his beard dressed his face like an intimidating veil. His fighting was uncanny and his wit phenomenal and his parents were confident that they’d leave the village in capable hands.

That was his life; straightforward, simple, with a clear goal from the day he was born. But something was missing; his heart desired something that the safety of the village couldn’t offer: adventure. He lusted for the dangers, the unknown, and the mysteries beyond the Nordic Seas. Once he shared his views and desires with his parents, he was quickly shot down as he was not ready to experience the expeditions outside the North. But he didn’t care.

Days after he came of age, he found the first ship that left for a gruesome journey across the Harrowed Sea. He joined the crew and the same day before the golden lights of the north touched the sky, he was already sailing in the high seas.

His travels lasted for years and years after that. He fought in wars, he fought pirates, he argued with elders and the scholars of the west, he fought vile beasts of the abyssal sea, and he saw for the first time the dragons, that recently arrived at the world, before he was ready to return back to his village and lead his people.

But the war of men and dragons caught him before he could return back to his home, and it unfolded faster than any war he had ever witnessed. Once the ship reached the shores and Eirik found his way home, his heart shattered. A Red Dragon had attacked and ruled his village, using Eirik’s friends and loved ones as slaves. The dragon stole their wealth and riches but most importantly, the dragon killed his father: a public execution in the middle of the village as a sign of power.

Blinded with hate and rage Eirik the Viking of the North grabbed his ax and sword and challenged the dragon in a duel to death. The dragon laughed and accepted the challenge. They fought, three days and three nights. Gusts of fire, rivers of human and dragon blood, and screams of war for three days, and Eirik proved victorious. He chopped the head of the dragon and put it on a stick. The Dragon Head lay outside the village, as a sign of his victory and a message to the rest of the dragons.

For the years to come, Eirik lived in the village, sworn never to leave again. He stood outside its walls, day and night and canvassed the skies for incoming threats, and more threats came, more dragons to enslave his village and steal their riches, and Eirik fought them and defeated them all. For every dragon he placed a dragon head outside the village.

One hundred heads later, the war was almost over and no dragons dared to approach the village. One dark day, Eirik saw five Dragons in the sky, approaching his village. The arrows were ready and his ax was sharp. But they were not there for war, they came for peace.

The Dragon Riders learned about the fearful northern warrior who kept fighting against the dragon oppression. They offered him a position and a chance to help them, but Eirik refused. He was no Dragon Rider, he was a Dragon Slayer and he was working alone. The Dragon Riders accepted his decision.

Once the war was over, they came back and offered him another chance to do an important job.

Eirik accepted and since that day, Eirik Ragson became Eirik the Viking, ‘The Gate Keeper’ ‘The Slayer of a Hundred’ and from that day on he spent his days and nights guarding the portal to Kriptomat. Many believe that up to this day, Eirik is still alive, guarding the portal against those who want to abuse its power.
