Lots of people in the NFT space seem to refer to traditional physical art as if it’s dead and has no value anymore. As something from the past. Listening to them one would think that NFT Art is truly a new Art Movement which is making any other form of Art obsolete and out of date. But are NFTs really a new Art Movement? Or are they just a new form of distributing art? A way for artists to regain control over their artistic rights. And, last but not least, a way of not only earning exposure in this digital age, but also a way of earning a living.

Art movements like cubism, dadaism, surrealism, pop art, visionary art, and many others, revolutionized the way art expressed its views, depicted reality, and/or made us see reality in a new light. NFT Art does none of that. NFT Art can be conceptual, realistic, surreal, psychedelic, and/or any other form of any art movement of the past, present, and future.

But, even though it doesn’t redefine the way we view reality, it might definitely redefine the way we view Art in our current society. A society in which artists can exponentially grow their audiences through exposure from the internet, unfortunately often without being financially compensated for one's hard work. Exposure alone won’t pay the bills…

Artists are not here to make companies richer by providing their art for free. Instead, companies should be here to ensure that arists can make a living. So even though NFTs might not revolutionize art itself, they might definitely be revolutionary.

Earning money is only a detail when it comes to creating Art, however an essential detail, as it gives artists the freedom to be full-time artists and thus create more Art. Therefore, NFTs might become essential for the future of Art and thus they might actually deserve a spot (of a somewhat different nature) on the timeline of Art….
